53 pages. India offers good prospects for the supply of branded products given its large consumer market of more than one billion people. India is the world’s fifth largest global destination in the retail segment. According to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), India’s total consumption expenditure will double to USD3.6 trillion by 2020 from USD1.8 trillion in 2017. On the back of factors such as rising incomes and lifestyle changes by the middle class and increased digital connectivity, India’s retail market is expected to increase to reach USD1.1 trillion by 2020. Retail sales of rubber products will benefit from the booming retail sector in India.
As such, this study was carried out to assess the potential of supplying rubber products in the OBM (own brand manufacturers) segment focusing on household gloves, industrial gloves and condoms in India. The targeted products in the study are no stranger to the Indian market. In the past, MREPC has carried out various market opportunity studies on similar products in India. However, the branding element has never been explored further. In light of the rising affluence and greater aspirations among the Indian consumers, we see the need to delve into the market of branded rubber products. Among the three products, condoms have a relatively strong brand awareness among the Indian consumers. The commercial market for condoms estimated at 2.9 billion pieces in 2017 is dominated by local brands with good understanding of the market landscape in India. Hence, this report aims to provide information on the market size and growth of the targeted products, major brands and source of supply, distribution channels, brand promotion channels, as well as strategies for Malaysian exporters to penetrate the market.
