77 pages. Thailand is currently the world’s second largest exporter of rubber gloves behind Malaysia. Thailand’s exports of rubber gloves comprising surgical and non-surgical gloves increased from 13.2 billion pieces in 2012 to 14.8 billion pieces in 2016, reflecting a CAGR of 3%. In value terms, exports posted a negative CAGR of 5%, declining from USD1.2 billion in 2012 to USD949 million in 2016.
The glove industry in Thailand enjoys an abundant supply and cheaper price of natural rubber (NR). Almost all of NR latex supplied to the rubber gloves manufacturing sector is sourced locally.
Thailand is currently the largest producer and exporter of NR in the world. In 2015, Thailand produced 4.5 million tonnes of NR accounting for 40% of total global production. At least 87% of the NR production was exported.
